Dealing With Anxiety
Life is full of challenges and unexpected events. Regrets from the past, stressors in the present, and the unknowns of the future can feel overwhelming. Fearful thoughts can grow when unchecked, resulting in a busy and distracted mind. Thoughts can spiral towards the worst case scenario like a tornado or remain nagging and constant like the ticking of a clock always in the background. Anxiety is a natural response to stress, characterized by feelings of worry, fear, and unease. However, when anxiety becomes excessive, persistent, and interferes with daily functioning, it may indicate an anxiety disorder.
Common signs of anxiety include:
Excessive worry, overthinking, replaying conversations after they happen
Restlessness or feeling on edge

Irritability or feeling easily overwhelmed
Self-critical or perfectionistic
Physical symptoms like rapid heartbeat, sweating, difficult to breath, or shaking

Use calming products for your senses like essential oils, lotions, calming music, etc.
Challenge negative thoughts
Recognize and challenge negative or irrational thoughts that contribute to anxiety
Replace them with positive and realistic perspectives.
Seek support
Reach out to trusted friends, family members
Reach out to your school’s counseling services for emotional support
Anxiety is a common experience, especially during highly stressful seasons of life. By recognizing the signs and symptoms of anxiety, you can take proactive steps to manage it effectively. Do not let anxiety convince you that you are helpless, because you have tools, resources, and support. Your mental health is a part of you that deserves your full attention.
